1L: Data that Moves: Visualizing Improvement Data

Educators are often presented with data that highlight problems but offer little insight into how to improve. This session will explore visualizing familiar data in new ways that allow improvers to reveal variation in performance and detect when improvement is occurring. Using 9th grade on-track examples, participants will examine run charts, pareto charts, and control charts before applying visualization guidelines to design a display of their own. Through a workshopping activity, participants will practice and refine strategies for displaying data such as grades and attendance in ways that spark action at all levels of the system, from teacher to district leader.
