3G: Exploring Variation with Accessible Shewhart Charts in Google Sheets

Control charts are an important Quality Improvement tool for exploring variation in data. Why don’t more improvers in education use them? One part of the answer is they just aren’t accessible. To use control charts in your improvement work you need costly software designed for manufacturing not education. In this session, participants will learn how to explore variation in data using Dynamic Control Charts – a free, easy-to-use add-on for Google Sheets designed by Improving Education. This session is hands-on with real data. Bring your own or we will have some available. After an introduction to control charts and the art of exploring variation, you will learn how to install the add-on and how to use the add-on to create your own control chart. We’ll conclude with a live demonstration of exploring variation using some of the control charts participants just created.
