3J: Practical Measurement in Service of Instructional Improvement

Tuesday 31 March 2026ยท9:15 pm

Practical measurement is a critical tool to define practices that are key to the outcomes we hope to see, but the effective use of these measures concerns much more than a measurement tool or the data collected โ€“ it can drive social process among multiple members in a school and district system to deepen practice and to act with new learning. This session will focus on what it takes to utilize practical measurement in the context of an instructional improvement effort, where the ultimate student outcomes of learning and belonging, the vision of high-quality instruction, and the practices we hope to see shape and are shaped by how measures are used. Cases will be grounded in our middle-grades math work, but the core ideas can be applied to other subject areas.
