Implementation of Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces (VNPS) in DL Content Classrooms
Participants will learn about how Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces (VNPS) were implemented across DL classrooms in Windham Middle School’s Compañeros Unidos program. This strategy effectively integrates academic content instruction with language development in a supportive setting. VNPS are whiteboard surfaces positioned vertically for groups of students to collaborate while brainstorming, organizing, and evaluating responses. Based on Peter Liljedahl’s research, the presentation will cover how to get started with VNPS, give examples of content classroom application experiences, share teacher and student perspectives on the successes and challenges encountered, and provide participants with an opportunity to partake in a mini lesson.
